The Sylvia Frankel Library and Archives
OHRC
currently owns more than 100 educational videos and more than 100 books
related to the Holocaust, genocide and tolerance. In addition, the OHRC
disseminates a wide variety of teaching tools, curriculum guides, lesson
plans, classroom texts, and other important information to Oregon's educators,
and is currently planning to build large educational "trunks"
for use in Oregon's 198 school districts. Finally, OHRC houses numerous
artifacts and archival material, which detail the factual events of the
Holocaust.
By donating to this fund, you provide library resources and materials for use by students, teachers and members of OHRC.
The Shirley Tanzer Oral Histories Project
In 1993, the Center began videotaping first-hand testimonies of Holocaust survivors, librators, and witnesses. The Shirley Tanzer Oral history Collection currently contains more than 60 videos of the personal experiences of survivors and witnesses in Oregon , as well as "Glimpses of Lives Past,"a two-part video documenting the Holocaust Experiences of area survivors, refugees and liberators. Plans for the future of the project include an educational video for use with the future Holocaust Memorial in Portland and the electronic archiving of all testimonies.
OHRC Speakers Bureau Honorarium
As
the key source of Holocaust education, survivors, and those familiar with
the survivor's stories, tell their experiences of the Holocaust to Students,
community organizations, troubled youth, religious groups and at many other
events. Interaction with their audience provides a humanization of history
and an understanding of the lessons to be learned. Every year, our Speakers
Bureau of members visit thousands of middle and high school students in
Oregon, as well as many other members of the community.
By donating to this fund, you send Holocaust survivors, refugees, liberators, and other OHRC representatives to schools and events throughout Oregon and southwest Washington.
The Sala Kryszek Writing & Art Competition
The objectives of the Competition are to encourage today's youth to evaluate history, to foster and awareness of the Holocaust, and to broaden their minds in the areas of art, history, civics, sociology and literature. The rewards are not only in the prizes and recognition, but also in learning to evaluate history and developing verbal and artistic skills.
By donating to this fund, you provide the winning students in both Writing and Art an all-expense paid trip to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C.
