Education
Education
is the primary purpose of the Center. Our most valuable resource is our
group of Speakers - those survivors, refugees, liberators and others whose
lives were directly and irrevocably altered by the Holocaust - who speak
directly to the students, teachers, and various other groups of Oregon and
southwest Washington . Other educational programs, such as workshops, symposiums,
and the Sala Kryszek Competitions create the bulk of the OHRC's
endeavors.
Teacher Workshops
OHRC staff, scholars, and volunteers sponsor one and two-day Teaching Workshops. Continuing Education credit is available through Pacific University. OHRC plans on co-sponsoring Workshops periodically around the state with the Oregon Council for the Humanities and will entertain proposals for in-district workshops.
Educational Materials
OHRC makes available to teachers, schools, and districts a wide variety of materials: books, journals, videos, CD-ROMs, and activities to name a few.
Programs
The OHRC's annual commemorations of Kristallnacht and Yom Ha'Shoah are important events which generate community involvement within Holocaust education and remembrance. These events are also designed to speak more broadly about the threats to civil rights, human rights, and human dignity posed by ignorance, hatred and prejudice. The Center sponsors commemorative activities over several days and at a variety of venues to bring these important messages to all of today's generations.
Request a Speaker
The Speakers Bureau provides a priceless resource for teachers and students. Speakers provide the memories and insights of their own experiences (as survivors, refugees, and liberators of the Holocaust) directly to students in the classroom.
Other Resources
OHRC provides Library Archives and links to relatd websites for further studies.
