Sala Kryszek Writing and Art Competition

2005 Art Award winner: Risk for RewardThe objectives of the Competitions are to encourage today's youth to evaluate history, to foster an awareness of the Holocaust, and to broaden their minds in the areas of art, history, civics, sociology, and literature. The rewards are not only in the prizes and public recognition, but also in learning to evaluate history and develop verbal and artistic skills.

Each year, the top entry in both writing and art is awarded the Sala Kryszek Award, a trip to The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. for one student, his/her teacher, and one parent. The OHRC provides three nights lodging, admission to the USHMM, and transportation. Home-schooled students who are selected for the top prize will be awarded the trip along with one parent.

Other awards given in each division (in both Writing & Art) include:

Winning entries will be publicized and displayed throughout the year and in various venues. Competition entries are due by March 2, 2007. Winners will receive their awards at a ceremony at Pacific University in May, 2007.

I hope you will encourage your students to participate and will guide their participation by helping them to interpret this year's topic. If we can be of further assistance, please contact us. We look forward to seeing your students' creative work.
