Wall-Back--1The Oregon Holocaust Resource Center (OHRC) exists to tell the story of the Holocaust from the crucial perspective of the survivors, refugees, and liberators, primarily to teach the many important lessons that come to us from this event. OHRC is especially supportive of efforts to enhance students’ awareness of the value of diversity and acceptance for all.

We accomplish this by offering teacher workshops, educational materials and special programs. Our Speakers’ Bureau is comprised mostly of Holocaust Survivors who travel to schools and workplaces to share their experiences.

The importance of teaching the lessons of the Holocaust is affirmed by the following exchange between a high school student and OHRC Immediate Past President and educator, Elaine Coughlin:

Question: “What do you know about the Holocaust?”

Answer from a High School Junior: “I’ve heard the word before. I don’t really know what it is. But I’d like to go to one some day.”
